Glazed barrel tile, hips and ridges done right
Sofia G. · Hillsborough County
The problem
The tile still looked fine from the street. The underlayment did not. Barrel tile is only as good as the sheet under it, and Florida UV plus a 20-year-old felt is how interior stains start with ‘the roof looks great.’
What we did
Tile pulled, saved, and reinstalled where the glaze was sound. New high-temp underlayment. Hips and ridge reset with a clean mechanical line — the photo is the actual hip, not a stock shot.
The result
Same Mediterranean look Sofia bought the house for, with a watertight layer under it and hips that catch the light in one line.
Complexities on this job
- Tile is a system job. Skip the underlayment and you bought a pretty leak
- Hip and ridge alignment is what you see from the driveway. It has to be straight
- Weight. We confirmed decking and structure before a single pallet hit the roof
- Color lot matching on replacement pieces so the field does not zebra
